Why This Test
TSH is the most sensitive screening test for thyroid problems — your pituitary's signal to your thyroid. If TSH is abnormal, your healthcare practitioner will typically add Free T4 (and sometimes Free T3) to characterise the thyroid pattern. Most thyroid issues are first detected through TSH alone, which is why it sits at the top of the thyroid investigation.
